I sold everything and I am house and pet sitting around the world

I decided it was time to lay up a few pics of the things I have seen while I have been house/pet sitting. Thus far I have been to Mexico, Costa Rica, Nicaragua and Panama. This is one of the benefits: exploring new places and seeing new things.

I have always wanted to be an artist but alas I cannot draw. I wrote for a newspaper and various magazines. I also write my own music/songs. But art…forget it. The gene was not passed on.
At the present time I am in very rural Costa Rica where it is very hot and humid so there are only certain times of the day that I go outside. The rest of the time I am mostly indoors and trying to find things to occupy my time when I am not working on my book or trying to learn Spanish. Therefore, it came as a complete surprise when I started indulging in art work thanks to AI generated drawings and I absolutely love it! I might go so far as to say that I have discovered I am addicted. Now everyday, I send the owners of the house pictures of their place so they can be sure that it is still standing using photos from different rooms in their house along with local critters. I have decided that I will do this for every housesit and honestly I think it will be fun for the owners too. Here are a few examples.

One of the wonderful things about housesitting around the world is you get to make new friends and you get to learn some things too. What is even better is when you get to do both.
One Sunday in Juriquilla, Mexico, Alfa and Gabby came over and taught me to make sopas. We hand-made tortillas which I learned to shape…but not well. The filling was made of chicken, onion, citronella, peppers, tomatoes and onion with some lovely spices added to the mixture. It was a lot of fun to spend time with my new friends and learn how to make something extremely tasty too!

I got to spend time with Jasmin and Aladdin when I went to Las Vegas last year (2024). They are two sweet cats and their owner was extremely kind. Here is a copy of her reference off of the Trusted Housesitters site.

This letter I copied off Trusted Housesitters where Dave W wrote his reference letter.

Kacy at my house near Christmas 2024

Running Kacy Along The Beach A Mile From My Home

For years, I had the desire to travel the world spending more than typical vacation time getting to know a place. I wanted to learn about the area and the people, experience local culture/food, and create some deep and meaningful relationships in my life. Yet, as a mom of five I never thought it would ever happen. I was busy and I enjoyed watching my kids grow and find their own paths in life. Then, in 2023, I was run over by my own car which was the catalyst for me to make major changes in my life. At 63 years old, I discovered that I wanted a routine sense of adventure, that I wanted to increase my interest in the world around me, that spending time with animals was important to me, and that I wanted to get to know people in other locations. I felt it important that these types of things should become a priority in my life. I wanted to create a sense of community wherever I was and make those meaningful connections that I dreamed of and felt were lacking most of my life.
I was in Thailand in March 2025 when I found out my house sold in one day after being put on the market. I was shocked and all of a sudden my desire for change shifted into high gear upon returning home. I sold 70% of my things, put the rest in storage and hit the road. First stop Queretaro, Mexico for a 10 week house and pet sit.
Now I am in Costa Rica for 6 weeks housesitting in a very rural and impoverished area of the country. I am doing my best to make friends, am taking Spanish lessons and walk daily to try and connect with area residents. From here I will be housesitting in Mexico City and then most likely be teaching at a small school in Colombia.
I am writing this for people who may want me to house sit in order to share my reference letters and experiences so you get to know me and feel comfortable with me living in your home. Having been an Air BandB host I know the importance of trusting that the people in your home are trustworthy. You can also read my travel blog here: https://youshouldbeatravelingfool2.com
Some of my travel blog is just from vacations but I am now incorporating my housesitting experiences within it too. To date I have traveled to 56 countries and my goal is to reach 100.
Please feel free to contact me and if you have any questions just ask.
Sincerely,
Cheryl
